Astronaut, Dr. Eugene Trinh, who performed hands-on experimental investigations in laboratories aboard the NASA KC-135 aircraft, and on the Space Shuttle Columbia as a Payload Specialist crew member on the STS-50. Dr. Trinh was one of two science payload specialists on the first United States Microgravity Laboratory Space Shuttle flight. This Spacelab mission was launched on June 25 1992, and lasted a record-breaking 14 days. Since then, Dr. Trinh has published over 40 reviewed articles and as many science and technology conference papers. He received a full scholarship at Columbia University, a Fellowship at Yale, NASA group achievement awards, Science Achievement Award, NASA Exceptional Scientific Achievement Medal, the Golden Torch Award from the Vietnamese American National gala in Washington D.C. and the NASA Flight Medal. Until 2005, Gene was the NASA Headquarters Manager of the Human System Research and Technology development program in the Exploration Systems Mission Directorate in Washington DC. Since 1999 Dr. Trinh has held NASA Headquarters positions of Director of the Physical Sciences Research division, as Director of the Microgravity Research Division. For 20 years, Eugene worked as a Senior Research Scientist at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory, where he conducted experimental and theoretical research in Fluid Dynamics, Fundamental Materials Science, and Levitation Technology. Currently Gene is the Director of the NASA Management Office at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory, California Institute of Technology.

Arthur Mitchell, legendary dancer, master choreographer and founding Artistic Director of the Dance Theater of Harlem (DTH). Arthur’s been the winner of the Kennedy Center Honor Award, named as a MacArthur Fellow, received the U.S. National Medal of Arts from the President, was Inducted into the National Museum of Dance’s Hall of Fame, won the 7th Annual Heinz Award, Fletcher Foundation Fellowship award, was honored by President Bush at the White House, and currently is appearing at the California African American Museum for the new exhibit: “Dance Theatre of Harlem: 40 years of Firsts.” Arthur Mitchell was born in New York City on March 27, 1934. Encouraged by a guidance counselor -who saw his talent- he auditioned for the New York High School of Performing Arts. Arthur then won a dance award and scholarship to study at the School of American Ballet. He began dancing in Broadway musicals and worked with several ballet companies, and began with the New York City Ballet in 1956 as its 1st African American dancer. He created the principal roles in many of director/ choreographer George Balanchine’s ballets. In 1968, determined to provide opportunities for children in Harlem, Arthur Mitchell, opened the Dance Theatre of Harlem to 30 children with his own funds. Within 2 months 400 youngsters were attending classes there.
